Their suspicions may have been correct, however, as their victim is now jailed on car theft charges. Vigilante justice may have been the motive of the four people, who deputies say allegedly grabbed Matthew Farenbaugh from Main Street in Lake Elsinore on Friday. Farenbaugh, 21, was driven about 40 miles to near his Valley Center home. In custody in Riverside are Ryan Allen Thomas, 20, Tyler J.D. Rothermel, 21, and Samuel Bruno Mandock, 22, all of Valley Center; and Gabriel Amanda Jones, 18, of Lake Elsinore. All four were held on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, attempted murder and felony conspiracy, according to jail records. A Robert Presley Detention Center spokesman confirmed Sunday morning that Thomas, Rothermel, Mandock and Jones all remained at the jail on $1 million bail each. Kidnap victim Farenbaugh was also held on $80,000 bail in a San Diego County jail facility, on a charge of auto theft and an outstanding felony warrant, San Diego County sheriff's officials said. The incident began unfolding Friday afternoon in the 300 block of Main Street, were witnesses say they saw the suspects assault a man, handcuff him, and force him into the trunk of a silver Honda Civic, authorities said. Deputies arrived at 3:52 p.m. and traced the Civic to an address in Valley Center. San Diego County deputies arrived at a home in the 27000 block of St. Andrews Lane just before the three suspects in the Civic arrived with the victim still imprisoned in the trunk, authorities said. Deputies arrested the three male suspects and freed Farenbaugh, 21, of Valley Center. Farenbaugh had head injuries and was treated at a San Diego-area hospital, authorities said. The suspects told investigators they believed Farenbaugh was involved in the theft of an auto belonging to one of their associates. They took matters in their own hands and followed Farenbaugh to Lake Elsinore, authorities said. Once there, Jones allegedly directed the suspects to a residence on Main Street where Farenbaugh was said to be hiding out. Farenbaugh was held at Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County, a jail spokeswoman said. Riverside County deputies asked anyone with information about this incident to call Investigator Bill Stens in Lake Elsinore at (951) 245-3300. :rocks:
