I was thinking of getting a MSD external coil with a cap and rotor and was wondering if its worth the $100+ dollars I'll be spending on it? I have NGK 9mm wires and NGK platinum plugs. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
You Decide... On a stock engine, this upgrade will probably not do much. oke: In a boosted, sprayed, or high compression application, the extra voltage along with the capacity of the larger coil will yield more consistent power output. The larger coil will allow for better recovery after a discharge. After the coil discharges, it has to build it's electric field back up for the next spark. High rpm applications will definitely need a bigger coil to ensure that the spark is steady and consistent. Ideally, having separate coils for each plug is the most advantageous, but for the sake of a good, low cost upgrade, the external coil conversion will work very well. The Install Link
Hey thanks man! My cars not boosted but I think I'm going to do it anyway I'll post once I get it and install it, to let others know if there was any change. Thanks for the install link too!
yeah msd is the best in ignition stuff so that was a good choice and like clutch said if u have more air an fuel going into the combustion chamber then u will need a bigger hotter spark to burn it all an make more power
clutch summed it up  i like running a hotter ignition just for reliability purposes but there isnt really any major benefit on an otherwise stock engine.
I think I might just get a new internal coil and a new rotor and cap insted because $100+ is alot of cash to me and I'd hate to waste that much $$$ on a upgrade that won't do much. Thanks for the input.
if its on a honda...i know whip factory proved that using oem ignition for a set up under 400whp works the best
