Nachtmensch: Daily Del Sol - FML

Not really anything exciting, but I may as well share my new winter beater/future daily driver with you.

The Bad: The car has 201,000 miles on it. The previous owner bought the car in 2003 at 103,000 miles. Clutch is gone (they never changed it) and the driver's side door doesn't open from the outside. The car also has some rust here and there. The trunk and part of the quarter panels have been rattle canned for some unknown reason. I'll put some gloss paint on it to blend it in.

The good: Motor runs fine. I did a valve adjustment on it today (free maintenance) and suprisingly, many were tighter than spec. Maybe a valve job was done by someone in experienced and the valves never closed all the way robbing some HP... IDK. Best part about this car is that it was very cheap. (MR-S might get a new, more powerful motor this winter)

The Plan: Winter tires on the stock wheels. Come spring, I might pick up some F2 coilovers and put some cheap wheels on it. (I hate stock cars :baby: ) Other than that, just simple maintenance, maybe some small things. We'll see.

 

I was wanting to replace the Celica with a Civic Hatchback or Del Sol, so seeing what you do with this should prove amusing.

 

I was thinking a rally car would be fun hsnap: I might try to do ice racing around January (there's a place way up north in WI that has annual ice racing)

Today I removed the previous owner's front plate (rusted on there with the nut rusted to the back), fixed the driver's side door (didn't open from the outside), and painted the wiper arms black (they were white)

Now I just need money for a clutch and brakes.

Damn! He needs spacers or something. And had I known about the ice racing, I probably would have gotten the All-trac that popped up in Chicago. Oh well. I get one someday.

well there's an AutoX October 19th at Maywood park that I'm going to with the MR-S. Dirt rally is in November, ice rally is late Jan through February. You've got time.

Go buy a helmet.

The car is officially road worthy. (titled, plates, insurance) The clutch install will be later this week.

Probably going to do new brakes next week.

 

hehehe thats funny to me you have a honda beater. Im sure youre gonna upgrade it in some form or another too just because you cant resist. I would be the same way tho.

 

Yeah, the car just feels like complete shit to drive. I think it is the combonation of severely worn out clutch, worn shifter bushings, and worn brakes that make it no fun.

I might be too annoyed by the feel of the car to do any mods. People like these cars? :ermm:





PS: FWD feels stupid. (though I hate to be a FWD hater, it's just been years since I've daily'd a FWD car...)

Try going MR to FF. Quite literally, every handling characteristic is different. Me no likey.

PS: touch screen dvd is going into the Sol. May as well make myself comfortable
