Southern California authorities crack down on illegal hot rods, street racing



RIALTO, Calif. - Charles Hoang winced when the whoosh went out of the tires. Daniel Maldonado took pictures with a digital camera as glass exploded and rained down to the ground.

The cars the teens had so meticulously souped up and tricked out were crushed Wednesday as part of a crackdown on illegal street racing in Southern California.

"That's my heart, my dream," said Hoang, 18, of Chino, who was surrounded by friends as his 1998 Acura Integra was put into a compactor. "That's my girlfriend, the love of my life. The cops can crush my car, but they can't crush my memories."

i posted the other thread about that news on here, but this is the first time watching the video!! awwww...makes me sick to think of my old hatch getting smashed like that. i guess if that happened to me i would go out and build the same car but rediculosly legit. so they could pull me over as much as they wanted, and they would never be able to do shit. CA cops are nazis period about this shit, just ask clutch about that one!

i just started to weep after seeing that that really sucks

 

i think the correct terminology is 'sport compact profiling'. there was a really good article about this in super street a couple of years ago. all valid points. one of the editors got pulled over in a g35 w/ catback exhaust ( below the california 95db limit) ive heard lots of g35/350z exhaust and none of them are very loud. do cops pull over pushrod camaros or hell even choppers for that matter, both of which are a hell of a lot louder than even the loudest sport compacts? no they don't. cops look down upon the entire import car culture based on a few bad apples. is today all that dissimilar from the muscle car era of the 60s/70s. instead of pushrod v8s, we use more efficient high revving 4 bangers, the twin turbo 6 cylinder monsters of the 90s etc. its all the same. were just passionate about our car culture, japanese american european who cares, i consider myself an automotive enthusiasts. i can appreciate cars of any make, although my preference is japanese. we need to educate the "law enforcers" that were not so different from them...

 

Damn, i would of been crying like i lost a family member. Pissed off at the same time.

 

this is why i don't race at all anymore.. no canyon .. no street racing .. nothing . and then people yell out at me that im a pussy. LOL or that its just a show car.. or that i just have a single cam and some stickers. LOL i find it amusing. If anything guys .. learn by this .. not saying racing isn't fun. But all that hard work and all that money .. GONE! for good. There is only that one way to prevent them from stealing your car away from you and destroying it.. driving carefully. Im not anybetter then anyone.. i did have 3 suspension, and 24 points ... i know what im talking about. and with all the money i gave the court.. i could have built 2 sukis no problem.

 

i can tell you right now from living in socal.. there are more then "just a few bad apples" i get reved on everyday. There are alot of idiots with imports out there. this i know! so i can't blame the cops a hundred percent. i get way more respect belive it or not from mustangs and camaros..
