ive been on here for a little while but could never find time to start a thread the only picture of my car while its at stock height then a few days later a little jdmness out with the old... in with the new (to me) B16B :googly: can you tell it was auto before? now to stop the beast i also have some updates to post up once i get around to taking picures
Whats up TJ! Hows it going? Long time now talk. Whats new with the sedan? BTW i keep getting random emails from your addy? whats up with that?
Nice pics TJ. Yea what's new with your car? Laying low for a while? Any plans for paint? It going to look HOT when it's painted!! Yea me too. I keep getting funky emails from ya. You might have some type of auto spam/email that's infected your computer.
Thanks guys. It'll be painted once i change my radiator support and get my new fenders and hood. I've been searching online for password jdm fenders (I won't order from password because shipping to Hawaii is almost double the price of the fenders) but can any one point me in the direction of a good website that won't rip me off with shipping? Bill and Marcus I will try and take care of my email soon but I have to wait because I forgot the answer to recover and change my password...
amazinnnng! when i remember of hawaii, i just remember that you're jdm neighbours lol.. enjoying the b16b much? =]
Thanks man. That's an interesting way to think of Hawaii haha and I love this motor! In my 4 door it's still pretty dam fast! Once my exedy clutch comes in and I break it in I'm going to go to the track and get some times. Also the b16b does very good as a dd motor
just some very minor updates: i was tired of the km/h so i modded my cluster a little today i did a little work, just adjusting the valves and going to some royal purple. also its a little teaser for my new to me intake
Hahaha yeah I liked people thinking my car was fast as hell but it's nice to know exactly how fast I'm going. Ok so I did my valves today and prior to Me doing them it ran fine and just ticked pretty loud. I did the valves when the motor was cold and I did the valve lash to .006 on the intake and .008 on the exhaust. Now after I rev the motor it almost dies when it comes down and now it has no power. The cel is on and it's telling me a code of 9 flashes which is a cylinder misfire I believe? Did I do the lash too tight? Now I'll have to wait to Sunday or Monday to do it but could use some help
I dont think that would cause a cylinder misfire if you did in fact set the valves to the correct spec. Maybe there is a loose spark plug wire. Double check that they are all seated properly and making good contact. Also is it 9 short flashes or a combination of both short and long codes. maybe it is something else? Also your car is OBD2 so you could have just hooked up a code reader and a P-something code would have popped up. If it is a misfire then anyone of these codes will show up on the code reader: P1300-Random misfire P0300-Random misfire P0301-CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE P0302-CYLINDER 2 MISFIRE P0303-CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE P0304-CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE PO305-CYLINDER 5 MISFIRE P0306-CYLINDER 6 MISFIRE
I did take out a spark plug to make sure that it was on tdc the first time so I'll recheck that. Also I know my car is obd2 but because of my jdm ecu it won't read on the scanner so I have to do it re old school way and use a paper clip to check it and it was 9 short flashes. Another thing is I talked to one of my coworkers who used to be a ase certified mechanic and he told me it sounds like the valves are a tight? But I'll check for the mis first since that's easier then doing the valves again
Well this guy could be right. If they are too tight a misfire can occur. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt that you did the adjustment right lol. You dont have to redo them again, just pop off the valve cover and check the clearances this way. Too bad the code reader doesnt work because it will pinpoint the exact cylinder that was misfiring and you could simply check that cylinder. But unfourtunately you will have to double check them all. Lets just hope they are not loose! Im sure its not but that would result in a bent valve. Good luck TJ!
Thanks Marcus. Well the good thing about having a coworker with a em1 is im going to swap ecus for the night so I can go to my friends house and pull the code. I'm hoping it's the #1 cylinder that way I can hopefully re gap the plug and fix the problem
I scanned the ecu and came up with a p1382 code and tried researching it but I'm stumpped on why it's throwing that code
First question: Did you for whatever reason remove the dizzy? As your friend has said sometimes this can be caused by overtightened valves, but seeing as the code is flashing 9 (cylinder 1) this leads me to believe that the CYP (cylinder postion sensor) is faulty. Because Why would the ECU pick just that 1 cylinder as misfiring when im sure you did the exact same procedure for every valve so its odd that only the number cylinder 1 was picked by the ECU. unfourtunately the sensor is buried deep in the Dizzy and most times (95% of the time) people just buy a new dizzy FROM HONDA. Aftermarket pieces just have more potential for failing again. To avoid buying a new dizzy, I would try removing the cap and cleaning all the female spade connections under the cap and possibly crimp them closer together in order to get good connections. If the problem persist, then my next step would to replace the dizzy. its not uncommon that the dizzys need to be replaced.
Thanks for the info Marcus! To answer your first question, no we didn't touch the dizzy at all. I think on tuesday I'll be spending the day just tinkering with my car. I'm going to start with re adjusting my valves, I'm pretty sure my dizzy is fine because it was 100% fine prior to the adjustment and I'll just do the valves again but with more slack in the lash so I can cross that off the list. It idles fine when it's cold but once it warms up is when it starts to give me problems so I'm pretty sure it's the valves but I'll find out on tuesday
