Nope, it's a Toyota 2ZZ-GE. Yamaha does a lot of head design for Toyota (4a, 3S, 2ZZ, 18RG [some]) They also helped design the M series motors (5M, 7M), JZ (2JZ, 1JZ), and a whole slew of others. Basically it comes down to Toyota being a major share holder of Yamaha. They share some R&D departments, specifically for race and high performance applications. :woot:
Compression: ~5-10psi on all 4 Leak down: 95% Looks like it is valves, like I was told before I bought the motor. When I have time, I will pull the head and asses the damage to see if I need pistons or something else too.
finally got the head off (after obtaining the correct, 12mm triple square bit) Block looks pretty good. You can see the MMC coating (all aluminum cylinder walls) which is supposed to strengthen the walls and provide a low friction coating Yup, needs new valves.
I pulled off the oil pan, and was greeted by part of the girdle that came with it. It was a small corner that was by the oil pump. I'll have it welded back on by my coworker. Oil that was in there was all milkshake'd. So I think this motor suffered from a BHG... or something. Could be cause for the leakage as well as all the coolant everywhere. I didn't have time to pull the girdle/rod caps off to check the bearings. But, I think at this point I will be doing a full build. I'd hate to do all the work to the head, just to have the bottom end fail. It would also give me peace of mind. Sorry no pics. I can snap some next week.
I just got my box of 2zz parts. Still need to buy (minimum): Throttle body Throttle cable bracket ECU 2ZZ MAF Gaskets APR head studs Circuitworx oil pump gear New oil pump Valves Valve springs Ti retainers
If you're going to do something, may as well do all the details. I have 2 done (finished the second in about 30-40 minutes) but I'm done for now I'll do more when I get bored again.
this isn't going to turn into another one of you marathon "imma clean every spec of dirt off my transmission and paint it gold" is it?
