The age old question suck or blow I have a B16 DOHC Vtec & want to boost the power a friend has added a Vortech supercharger to his , what's the opinion of people. Turbo or Supercharger I like the idea of no lag so am leaning towards the Vortech solution.
I know this is kind of crazy to say this in this boost or go home era were all in, but how about going all motor, build that bad boy and put some guy with a turbocharged motor to shame, i can honestly say i prefer the sound of all motor VTEC over the sound of a BOV
I do have to admit that the Vtec sound is by far the best sound, Any ideas to save going the blown route would be good, I would like to keep the B16 engine. I have already improved the cooling system by swapping to an aluminium radiator, Mugen thermostat & fan switch. I have fitted a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold to improve the mid range, a sports cat with custom stainless system to improve the flow. A cold air in take, I presume cams, fuel rail, cam gears, underdrive crank pulley are options but which ones ?
cams I would go with the Buddy Club Spec IV cams, from what i have heard and read you can gain up to 20 WHP with them
I have decided to do some work on the B16 Engine I'm starting with AEM adjustable cam gears & underdrive crank pulley. Buddy Club Spec III Plus cams. AEM High flow fuel rail, fuel regulator & Spoon Throttle body Finally for now a Spoon head gasket. Should push it up to 200bhp or very close
my thinking is that with a supercharger, sure you get no lag and basically one unit that is fairly simple. but when your motor is fully built and theres nothing else you can do, how much HP will you have with a SC? with a turbo you can always go bigger and bigger. your HP limit is higher. can someone tell me what the most insane hp figure for a SCed B series is? i have heard of 4-5-600 hp turboed B16s. and maybe im getting ahead of myself and you arent going to do the $100,000 engine build! lol! i have 2 friends with the exact same 2000 Si. one with a Jackson and one with the Greddy kit. they are both really fast. but my other friends all motor 96 B18C hatch killed both of them. you see more turboed and SCed B16s than individuall throttle bodied all motor B16s. between turbo and Sc i would have to say turbo. but if you have the money go all motor, and get mad respect! just my thoughts!
thats good for what 10psi? or do they make a bigger one now? they also make carbon fiber impellars for the JRSC, not sure who makes those though.
I have decided to see how much I can get out of the std B16 without boost. I'd love to try a K20 as mentioned in an earlier post but they are so expensive the ones I have seen have been over $6500. Once you get close to 250 bhp the front wheel drive becomes a problem anyway, there are cars here in the UK that are close to 300 but they almost become undriveable
get a salvaged one...ive heard for them go as low as 3k...the ones that are 6.5k are prolly from the JDM k20 from the ITR either way good luck and keep us posted!!
I would say go all motor or turbo. For some reason superchargers dont really tickle my fancy very much. Or just save up for the K20 (ITR). Got a buddy with one that went mid 8s in the 1/8th completely stock on regular ole street tires.
Had the car back from the tuning shop today & its running at 190bhp at 7450rpm with the std ecu. The most impressive thing is that the torque is close to 120lbs/ft across the whole rev range, it pulls like a dream.
im building an all motor 16a1 to put in my da teggy here is my build list bored over b16a1 block .25 jdm 16 head comptech intake rsr exhaust omni test pipe dc 1 pc header ctr itr pistons omni power valves retainers and springs and maybe skunk2 cams im thinking ctr intake and itr exhaust im lookin at around 200whp all motor not alot but still the pick up on that build will be way sick by the time the turbo spools up ill be flashing my haz. lights at the end of the track
