    b18c1

the b18c5 is pretty pointless unless you plan to keep it stock. the b16 just donest stack up in my opinion, and the lsvtec is not very cost effective.

drop in a b18c1 and do some minor bolt ons (intake manifild, throttle body, intake, exhaust, fuel) and youre set for awhile :)

You've got to be kidding me. How can you say that its pointless to mod a
    B18C5?

Intake manifold and throttle body are not gonna make a big difference unless you make it a more than a minor mod.

im saying if youre going to replace the cams or pistons, why would you pay more for something youre replacing? the blocks are essentially the same. like i said, depending on how much you will mod the motor, that will decide what is best for you.

    more extensive mods = b18c1
    less internal work = b18c5

It was the part where you said keep the B18C5 stock that threw me off.

ok so if i just want to drop the motor in the b18c5 is the best but if i want to buy the block and drop my own cams, gears, etc then do the b18c1 is what you are saying?

and which would be the best engine to drop in that would be turbo'ed?

depends on how extensive you want to build your motor. yes, it has a lot of power potential, but the reliability isnt as much seeing it IS a hybrid :p

so when you ask what would be the best, ive also considered money and reliability.

and just boosting a lsvtec makes it worse in reliability :(

i do have to admit though, if you have the money and time, you can build a reliable lsvtec and be very happy with it :)

kk well then let me ask you this :O.....

    cost of
    b18c1?
    b18c1 turboed?
    ls/vtec?
ls/vtec turbo that would last a while?
    ls/vtec turbo built to last?

just curious cause im thinking of doing this eventually to my car...either that for getting an s2k or possibly even a civic hatch or a crx...

It's all in how much you want to spend. Im sticking with my D16z6 in my 94. If you want to make really good power then i would say go witha DOHC B18 but this engine also weights more. Instead of using money swaping motors, im going to build my z6. I just haven't decided how far to go with it yet. But upgrade for upgrade, the B18 is better IMO.

in VA i have seen GSR swaps go for like 3000-3500 and GSR turbo your looking at more like 7000 depending on how nice of a turbo set up you get, LS vtec will most likely run about the same amount as a GSR, because most likely you will have to get someone to build it for you. If you plan on going turbo just drop in a B18B and it will be a great set up.
